Valle del Cauca

Department in western Colombia, rising from the Pacific lowlands to the upper valley of the Cauca River; area 21,245 sq km/8,203 sq mi; population (1991) 2,847,100. The departmental capital is Cali. The region is Colombia's largest producer of sugar, rice, tobacco, and coffee; the bulk of the latter crop is exported through the port of Buenaventura.
