Valletti, Cesare (1922– )

Italian tenor. He made his debut at Bari in 1947, as Alfredo. Wider recognition came in 1950 with Il Turco in Italia in Rome, and Fenton at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. At La Scala, Milan he was heard as Lindoro, Nemorino, and Almaviva. He made his US debut at San Francisco in 1953, as Werther. He performed in New York at the Metropolitan Opera House as Ottavio, Ferrando, and Ernesto (1953–62). He retired in 1968.
