Valley of the KingsBurial place of ancient kings opposite Thebes, Egypt, on the left bank of the Nile. It was established as a royal cemetery during the reign of Thotmes I (c. 1500 BC) and abandoned during the reign of Ramses XI (c. 1100 BC). A vast underground tomb believed to be the burial site of 50 of the sons of Ramses II was discovered by archaeologists May 1995; it was the largest yet found in the Valley of the Kings.
