Coffin of Tutankhamen, Cairo, Egypt. This is the third and innermost coffin of the pharaoh, made of solid gold. Tutankhamen is depicted as the Egyptian god Osiris holding a flail and crook.

King Siptah, from a painted wall in his tomb, in the Valley of the Kings, Egypt. Siptah was the seventh king of the 19th Egyptian dynasty, and the successor of Seti II. He ruled for over six years, from around 1199 to 1192 BC. The tomb was discovered in 1905.

Burial place of ancient kings opposite Thebes, Egypt, on the left bank of the Nile. It was established as a royal cemetery during the reign of Thotmes I (c. 1500 BC) and abandoned during the reign of Ramses XI (c. 1100 BC).

A vast underground tomb believed to be the burial site of 50 of the sons of Ramses II was discovered by archaeologists May 1995; it was the largest yet found in the Valley of the Kings.

Many of the tombs in the Valley of the Kings were constructed in great secrecy to escape the attention of the grave robbers.
The tomb of the pharaoh, who died under mysterious circumstances at about the age of 25, was unearthed by British archaeologists in the Valley of the Kings in 1922, causing an international sensation.
LUXOR: The ornate pharaonic tombs in Egypt's Valley of the Kings are doomed to disappear within 150 to 500 years if they remain open to tourists, the head of antiquities has warned.
