Van Druten, John (1901–1957)

English-born US playwright and novelist. He first came to attention as a playwright with Young Woodley, 1928, but his most famous work is I Am a Camera, 1951, which was based on the Berlin stories of the English writer Christopher Isherwood.

Before embarking on his career as a playwright, Van Druten was a lecturer in English law at Aberystwyth, 1923–26. His other plays include After Al, 1929, The Distaff Side, 1933, and The Voice of the Turtle, 1943. He was also the author of four novels and two volumes of autobiography.
