Van Meter

Van Meter

Small town in Dallas County, central Iowa; population (1996 est) 810. It is situated on the Raccoon River, 38 km/24 mi southwest of Des Moines. It is a farming community.

Van Meter is the birthplace of baseball pitcher and member of the Hall of Fame, Bob Feller (‘Bullet Bob’). His home is a museum. It is also the former site of a coal mine, opened in 1878.
