Vanbrugh, Violet (married name Bourchier) (1867–1942)

English actor. She included among her many roles Queen Katharine in Shakespeare and Fletcher's Henry VIII and Lady Carfax in Ethel M Dell's The Knave of Diamonds. By the command of Edward VII, she played Portia in Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice at Windsor Castle in 1905. She also appeared in films, notably Pygmalion 1938. She was the sister of Irene Vanbrugh.
