Vaness, Carol (1952– )

US soprano. She made her debut at San Francisco in 1977, as Vitellia, where she later sang Cleopatra and Donna Anna. She appeared at the New York City Opera from 1979 as Antonia, Violetta, and Alcina; she performed at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, in 1984 as Armida in Rinaldo. Since 1982 she has appeared at Glyndebourne as Donna Anna, Mozart's Electra and Fiordiligi, and Amelia Boccanegra (1986). She performed in London at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden from 1982 as Mimi, Vitellia, Dalila in Handel's Samson, and Donna Anna (1992). In 1994 she sang Desdemona at the Metropolitan Opera House, and Norma at Seattle.
