George

Town in Western Cape province, South Africa, 50 km/31 mi east of Mossel Bay, at the foot of the Outeniqua mountains; population (2001) 135,400. Industries include footwear, saw-milling, clothing, tanning, and hop growing. The town is a popular tourist centre.

The town is named after King George III.
