Vaughan, Denis (1926– )

Australian conductor and organist. After study in Melbourne and London he was assistant to Beecham at the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, forming the Beecham Choral Society in 1953. He has conducted widely in Europe and was music director of the State Opera of South Australia (1981–84). He made his US opera debut in 1983 with Bellini's I Capuleti/The Capulets, at the Juilliard Opera Center. He has edited and corrected the scores of operas by Puccini and Verdi.
