Vaughan, Elizabeth (1936– )

Welsh soprano. She studied at the Royal Academy of Music, London and sang Abigaille with Welsh National Opera in 1960. She sang in London at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden from 1961 as Mimi, Tytania, Teresa, Gilda, Amelia, and Butterfly. Her New York debut was made at the Metropolitan Opera House in 1972, as Donna Elvira. In recent years she has also sung roles, such as Kabanicha in Káta Kabanová with Scottish Opera (1993).
