Veeck, William Louis, Jr (1914–1986)

US baseball executive and pioneer of new marketing techniques.

As owner of St Louis Browns 1951–53 and Chicago White Sox 1959–61, he introduced innovations in the sale of television rights and the drafting of amateurs that later became standard in professional sports.

Born in Chicago, USA, Veeck was the son of the owner of major league baseball's Chicago Cubs, and attended Kenyon College. He became part owner of the Cleveland Indians, and helped guide them to a World Series victory 1948.
