Veichtner, Franz Adam (1741–1822)

German violinist and composer. He was a pupil of Franz Benda for the violin and of Riepel for composition. He was in the service of Count Kaiserling at Königsberg (1763–64), Konzertmeister to the Duke of Courland in Mitau (1765–95), and then chamber musician to the Russian court in St Petersburg until his retirement in 1820.

Works

Singspiele, for example Cephalus und Prokris (1779) and Cyrus und Cassandana (1784); five symphonies; violin concerto; three string quartets (1802); 24 fantasias on Russian songs for violin and bass; 24 violin sonatas.
