Veidt, Conrad (1893–1943)

German film actor. He played the sleepwalker in Das Kabinett des Dr Caligari/The Cabinet of Dr Caligari (1919) and the evil caliph in The Thief of Bagdad (1940). An international film star from the 1920s, he moved to Hollywood in the 1940s, where he played the Gestapo officer in Casablanca (1942).
