Veltri, Michelangelo (1940– )

Argentine conductor. He conducted in South America before moving to Europe in 1970, where he appeared in Stuttgart, Milan, and Vienna. He was artistic director at Barcelona and Avignon. He made his first London appearance at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 1986, conducting Lucia di Lammermoor; his New York debut was made at the Metropolitan Opera House in 1989 with La traviata. Other Verdi repertory includes Un ballo in maschera/A Masked Ball, Don Carlos (at Marseille), Aïda (Orange), Otello, and I due Foscari. He conducted Il trovatore/The Troubadour at Buenos Aires in 1990.
