Venezia Giulia e Zara

Former region of northeast Italy which comprised the provinces of Carnaro, Gorizia, Istria, and Zara; area 8,950 sq km/3,456 sq mi. At the end of World War II, by the peace treaty signed in Paris on 10 February 1947, the greater part of the region was ceded to Yugoslavia; Italy retained 466 sq m/180 sq mi, now incorporated into Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
