Vengerov, Maxim (1974- )

Russian violinist. He played Schubert's Rondo Brillant in Moscow, aged 11. He gave concerts at first in Russia, then played with the Concertgebouw Orchestra and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. He won the 1990 Carl Flesch Competition in London. He made his US debut in 1990 with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra; he has played with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra both in Tel Aviv and on tour to the USA. Further concerts have included performances with the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra at the London Promenade concerts, London (Sibelius and Brahms concertos), the London Philharmonic Orchestra under Mehta, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Barenboim, and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under Menuhin. He is regarded as one of the most promising virtuosi of his generation.
