Opera by Pasquale Anfossi (libretto by F Puttini), produced at the Teatro delle Dame, Rome, on 2 January 1776. Opera by Haydn (libretto ditto, altered by P Travaglia), produced at the palace Eszterháza on 25 April 1779. Secretly married to wayward Count Enrico, fisher maid Rosina faces Baroness Irene, who has arrived to arrange a marriage between Rosina and Villoto. Enrico and Rosina are reconciled when he meets their son; the Baroness marries Ernesto.
