Verhoogen, John

Verhoogen, John (1912–1993)

US geophysicist. He performed thermodynamic investigations of the earth's internal convection currents, then specialized in the paleomagnetism of iron-titanium oxides. Verhoogen was born in Brussels, Belgium. He obtained his PhD in volcanology from Stanford University (1936), became a prospector and engineer in the Belgian Congo (now the Democratic Republic of Congo) (1940–46), then joined the University of California: Berkeley (1947–77).
