Veroia

Town in the Macedonia region of Greece, capital of Emathia department; population (2001 est) 43,500. The abundant water supply attracted handicraft workers in the 18th and 19th centuries; now hydroelectric power supplies silk-spinning mills. The town is a commercial and communications centre for the region. It originated as the old Macedonian city of Berea.

St Paul is said to have preached in the town.
