Viadana, Lodovico

Viadana, Lodovico (c. 1560–1627)

Italian composer. He was a prolific composer, writing mostly vocal church music. His works include 100 Concerti ecclesiastici (1602), for one to four voices with organ continuo.

Viadana studied with Costanzo Porta and before 1590 was appointed maestro di cappella at Mantua Cathedral. In 1596 he joined the Franciscan order, became maestro di cappella at Concordia in 1609, and in 1612 at Fano Cathedral. In 1615 he went to live at Piacenza, whence he retired to the Franciscan monastery at Gualtieri.
