Vichy

Health resort and spa town in Allier département, central France, situated on the River Allier 320 km/200 mi southeast of Paris; population (1990) 60,000. From 1940 to 1944, during World War II, it was the seat of the French general Pétain's government (also known as the Vichy government), which collaborated with the Nazis.

Vichy's thermal springs were known to the Romans, and its mineral waters are exported in large quantities.
