Vicky (1913–1966)

Hungarian cartoonist who settled in the UK from 1935. He worked for a number of British papers but is best known for his contributions to the New Statesman magazine from 1954 and the Evening Standard from 1958. His satirical cartoons attacked power and privilege, and his serious drawings exposed the plight of the poor and oppressed.

Born in Berlin of Hungarian parents, he first worked for the Berlin 12 Uhr Blatt and published an anti-Hitler cartoon as early as 1928. He went to the UK in 1935 after the Nazis came to power.
