It was also the culmination of the author's life long quest to understand bravery, courage and duty' a passion that made the author Michael Ashcroft - otherwise known as Lord Ashcroft, deputy chairman of the Conservative Party - build up the world's largest private collection of Victoria Crosses, not for his own benefit, but to put into trust and to display in public so all those awarded will be remembered and revered forever.
