Victoria Land

Region of Antarctica fronting on the west side of the Ross Sea, extending north from about 78° south to 70° 30' south in 164° east. It lies within the Ross Dependency (New Zealand) and the Australian Antarctic Territory. It was discovered in 1841 by the English explorer Captain James Clark Ross, who named the region after Queen Victoria.

At the start of the 20th century, the region was explored by the Irishman Ernest Henry Shackleton, the Australian Douglas Mawson, the Norwegian Roald Engelbrecht Gravning Amundsen, and the Englishman Robert Falcon Scott.
