Vidor, King

Vidor, King (Wallis) (1894–1982)

US film director. He made such epics as The Big Parade (1925) and Duel in the Sun (1946). He has been praised for his stylistic experimentation and socially concerned themes.

He was instrumental in setting up the Screen Directors' Guild in 1936 and was a crucial figure in 1930s Hollywood. His other films include The Crowd (1928) and Guerra e Pace/War and Peace (1956). He received an honorary Academy Award in 1979.
