Vierling, Johann Gottfried (1750–1813)

German organist and composer. He studied at Schmalkalden with the organist J N Tischer (whom he succeeded as church organist there in 1773). In 1770 he studied with Kirnberger in Berlin. He wrote treatises on thorough-bass and on preluding to hymns.

Works

Singspiel, Empfindung und Empfindelei; c. 160 cantatas, other church music; many chorales and chorale preludes for organ; two symphonies; piano quartet; eight piano sonatas.
