Vierne, Louis (1870–1937)

French organist and composer. He studied with Franck and Widor at the Paris Conservatory. He became assistant organist to Widor and succeeded him as organist at the church of Saint-Sulpice and later became organist at Notre-Dame, where he died at the console.

Messe solennelle for chorus and two organs; symphonies; string quartets; sonatas for violin and piano and cello and piano; six symphonies (1899–1930) 24 Pièces en style libre, 24 Pièces de fantaisie, and other works for organ.
