Vilar, José Teodor (1836–1905)

Spanish composer and conductor. Returning to Barcelona from his studies in Paris in 1863, he became conductor at one of the minor theatres in Barcelona, and later at the principal theatre. He also did much teaching.

He studied with the cathedral organist Ramón Vilanova (1801–1870) at Barcelona and in 1859 went to Paris to study piano with Henri Herz and composition with François Bazin (1816–1878) and Jacques Halévy.
