Vilback, (Alphonse Charles) Renaud de (1829–1884)

French organist, pianist, and composer. He studied at the Paris Conservatory, where Halévy was among his masters, and gained the Prix de Rome in 1844. He was organist of Sainte Eugène, Paris, from 1856 to 1871. After an early success he was unfortunate; he made a precarious living by arranging and performing other editorial work for unscrupulous publishers. He became blind and died in poverty.

operas Au Clair de la lune (1857) and Don Almanzor (1858); Messe solennelle; cantata Le Renégat de Tanger (1842); Pompadour Gavotte, Chant cypriote, Marche serbe for orchestra; piano pieces.
