Vinson, Carl

Vinson, Carl (1883–1981)

US Democrat representative. He served in the US House of Representatives 1914–65. As chair of the Committee on Naval Affairs 1933–47, he prepared the navy for World War II; he subsequently became chair of the Armed Services Committee 1949–63.

He was born in Milledgeville, Georgia, and worked as a lawyer, prosecuting attorney, and judge, serving in the Georgia House of Representatives 1912–14.
