Ventimiglia

Resort town in Liguria region, northwest Italy, on the River Roja and on the Italian Riviera, 5 km/3 mi from the French border; population (1991) 25,300. There is a trade in flowers and fruit. The Balzi Rossi grottoes contain Palaeolithic remains, and east of the town are the remains of the Roman settlement of Albintimilium.
