Virgo Cluster

Cluster of more than 2,500 galaxies in the direction of the Virgo constellation. The cluster is about 9 million light years across and 60 million light years away from the Sun. It contains three giant elliptical galaxies, each 20 times the size of our Galaxy. One is a powerful radio galaxy, a strong source of electromagnetic waves known as M87. Virgo is the nearest rich cluster to our own Galaxy.
