cholecalciferol

Fat-soluble chemical important in the uptake of calcium and phosphorous for bones. It is found in liver, fish oils, and margarine. It can be produced in the skin, provided that the skin is adequately exposed to sunlight. Lack of vitamin D leads to rickets and other bone diseases.
