Vivarini

Family of Venetian painters. They were Antonio (1420–1476), his younger brother Bartolommeo (active 1450–1499), and Alvise (1447–1504), the son of Antonio.

Antonio Vivarini collaborated with his brother-in-law Giovanni d'Allemagna on religious paintings of a Gothic character. Some German admixture of style may have been due to Giovanni d'Allemagna, though the two painters are not distinguishable one from another.

Bartolommeo Vivarini at first collaborated with Antonio but developed a style influenced by Andrea Mantegna.

Alvise Vivarini conducted a school on the island of Murano rivalling that of the Bellini family. He painted altarpieces for a number of churches in Venice, and portraits influenced by Antonello da Messina.
