Vogel, Vladimir Rudolfovich

    0.03 sec.

Vogel, Vladimir Rudolfovich (1896–1984)

Swiss composer of German and Russian descent. He studied in Russia, and later with Tiessen and Busoni in Berlin; he settled in Switzerland in 1933. From the time of his violin concerto (1937) he wrote serial music, striving to maintain clarity in his writing and to emphasize the less dissonant (tonally displeasing) aspects of his 12-note rows.

Works

Choral

cantatas Wagadu's Untergang for solo voices, chorus, speaking chorus and five saxophones (1930); Thyl Claes (after Till Eulenspiegel, 1938–45).

Instrumental

Sinfonia fugata, four studies, Devise, Tripartita for orchestra; violin concerto (1937), cello concerto (1955); Komposition and Etude Toccata for piano.
