Volbach, Fritz (1861–1940)

German composer and conductor. He studied at the Cologne Conservatory. He joined the staff of the Royal Institute of Church Music in Berlin in 1886, became music director at Mainz in 1892, and professor of music at Tübingen University in 1907. He moved to Münster University in 1919.

opera Die Kunst zu lieben (1910); ballads for male voices and orchestra Der Troubadour, Am Siegfrieds-Brunnen, König Laurins Rosengarten (1913); Raffael for chorus, orchestra and organ; Hymne an Maria (Dante) for chorus, solo instruments and organ (1922); song cycle Vom Pagen und der Königstochter (Geibel).

Instrumental

symphony in B minor, symphonic poems Es waren zwei Königskinder and Alt Heidelberg; Ostern for organ and orchestra; piano quintet for wind and piano.
