Colima| Town in Mexico and administrative capital of the state of Colima, lying 500 km/311 mi west of Mexico City; population (1995) 120,800. It is situated at an altitude of 450 m/1,476 ft on the River Colima, and on the south slope of the volcano called Colima (3,680 m/12,073 ft), which last erupted in 1941.Colima is an important agricultural and commercial centre; the main industries are sugar refining, soapmaking, cigarmaking, the production of coconut oil, and the manufacture of shoes. Maize and rice are also traded. |
