volition

In philosophical psychology and the philosophy of mind, the act of willing. Philosophers who hold that mind and body are different substances (dualists) tend to hold that volitions cause actions, while those who hold that mind and body are fundamentally one substance (monists) tend to hold that volitions are inseparable from actions.
