Volsung

In Scandinavian mythology, the great-grandson of Odin and grandfather of Sigurd, the slayer of Fafnir; also the dynasty of fierce heroes descended from him.

The 13th-century Icelandic Volsunga saga describes the genealogy of the family and recounts the deeds of Sigurd; it is related to the German Nibelungenlied.

The Volsunga saga is linked to the saga of Ragnar Lodbrok, semi-legendary ancestor of the kings of Norway and Denmark, through Ragnar's marriage to Aslaug, daughter of Sigurd and Brynhild.
