Volumier, Jean Baptiste (c. 1670–1728)

Flemish violinist, dulcimer player, and composer. He was educated at the French court and in 1692 transferred to that of Prussia in Berlin. There he became leader of the orchestra and director of the dance music. In 1709 he went to Dresden as music director to the Saxon court; he was acquainted with Johann Sebastian Bach.
