Volzhski

Town in Volgograd oblast (region) of the southeastern Russian Federation; population (1996 est) 290,000. Volzhski is located on the left bank of the River Volga 25 km/16 mi east of Volgograd. An important chemical industry, producing synthetic rubber, is situated here.

Volzhski was founded in 1951 to house workers building the Volgograd hydroelectric power station, and became a town in 1954.
