Vostok

First Soviet spacecraft, used 1961–63. Vostok was a metal sphere 2.3 m/7.5 ft in diameter, capable of carrying one cosmonaut. It made flights lasting up to five days. Vostok 1 carried the first person into space, Yuri Gagarin.
