Votkinsk

Town in the Udmurt Republic, west-central Russian Federation, 64 km/40 mi northeast of Izhevsk on the River Kama; population (1996 est) 103,000. Industrial enterprises in Votkinsk include machine-tool plants, brickworks, and sawmills. The city was the birthplace (1840) of the composer Pyotr Il'yich (Peter Ilich) Tchaikovsky, whose childhood home is now a museum.

Votkinsk was founded in 1759 as an ironworks, and was made a town in the 1930s. The Votkinsk hydroelectric power station, located 30 km/19 mi from the city on the River Kama, came on stream in 1963.

I have done it in the opposite direction from Votkinsk to Beijing.

He was born in 1840, in Votkinsk, some six hundred miles east of Moscow.
