Voulkos, Peter

Voulkos, Peter (1924– )

US potter and sculptor. He led in the development of pottery as an art form, while influencing numerous students and achieving international status. He is known for his slashed and cracked pots.

He was born in Bozeman, Montana, and trained at the California College of Arts and Crafts. He taught at the Black Mountain College, North Carolina, in 1953, where he was exposed to the avant-garde, and at the University of California, Berkeley, from 1959.
