Maastricht

Industrial city and capital of Limburg province, the Netherlands, on the River Maas, near the Dutch-Belgian frontier; population (2006 est) 120,200. Industries include metallurgy, textiles, and pottery. Maastricht dates from Roman times. It was the site of the Maastricht summit in December 1991.

Servaas Church in Vrijthof Square, Maastricht, Holland.
On the west side is the attractive Vrijthof town square, dominated by the Basilica of St Servatius, a beautiful 14th Century building.
The route passes through the impeccably restored Stokstraat quarter, the city's old ramparts, pretty parks and the impressive Vrijthof Square, with the Church of St Jan and the Basilica of St Servatius.
