Vryburg

Town in Northwest province, South Africa, 160 km/99 mi southwest of Mmabatho; population (district, 1991) 98,500. The centre of a livestock-producing area, it has a creamery, canning factory, and cold storage plant. Vryburg is on the railway line that runs through Botswana and Zimbabwe into Zambia.

Vryburg was the capital of the short-lived Stellaland Republic (1882–1884), founded by Boers from Transvaal.
