Vyshni Volochek

    0.03 sec.

Vyshni Volochek

Town in the Tver oblast (region) of the Russian Federation, 119 km/74 mi northwest of the city of Tver; population (2001 est) 59,300. A variety of textile industries are located in the town.

Vyshni Volochek has long been a centre of commerce, and had its heyday in the 18th century, due to its location on the only artificial waterway then existing between the Baltic Sea and the Volga (prior to construction of the Mariinskiy Waterway – now the Volga–Baltic Waterway – in 1810).
