Wadsworth, Stephen (1953– )

US stage director, librettist, and translator. He directed operas by Monteverdi with Skylight Opera, Milwaukee, from 1982. He wrote the libretto for Bernstein's A Quiet Place (1983) and directed it in Milan and Vienna. Productions for Seattle Opera include Jenůfa and Gluck's Orphée; Fidelio and Clemenza di Tito for Scottish Opera, 1991. He directed Die Entführung in San Francisco in 1990. His debut at Covent Garden, London, was in 1992, when he directed Alcina; he also translated operas by Handel.
