Waghalter, Ignaz (1882–1949)

Polish-German composer and conductor. He was a pupil of Gernsheim. He conducted opera in Berlin and Essen (1907–23), and in 1925 conducted the State Symphony Orchestra in New York. He returned to Berlin, later moving to Prague in 1933. He settled in New York in 1938.

Works

operas Der Teufelsweg (1911), Mandragola (after Machiavelli, 1914), Jugend, Der späte Gast (1922) and Sataniel (1923), operettas; violin concerto; string quartet; violin and piano sonata.
